American Idol 8: Scott MacIntyre Departs
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Video,
Scott MacIntyre is the latest casualty of American Idol 8, but his tone hasn’t changed a bit. Scott is still the positive, playful contestant that made him an early favorite with viewers. You can see Scott above, in a segment filmed immediately following his Idol exit.
In the video, Scott spends some time with the judges before he begins the first of many interviews with the media that’s all part of the post-Idol elimination ritual. Simon Cowell, the judge who ultimately decided MacIntyre’s fate, spoke with the singer briefly about his exit from the show.
“It’s not a nice decision to have to make,” Cowell said of his choice to give Scott the proverbial boot from center stage. “I’m sorry I didn’t help you better,” the notoriously callous judge added, as he gave the most recently eliminated contestant a big hug.

Despite a flurry of promotion for the new series, ABC’s The Unusuals did what most shows do in that time slot: not much of anything. The premiere lost 18% of its lead-in’s audience and made it that much easier for FOX to dominate.
8pm
- Lie to Me (8.4 million, 2.5/8 in 18-49) fell by 600,000.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine (7.3 million, 2.1/7) and Gary Unmarried (7.3 million, 2.2/7) finished with similar numbers.
- Scrubs (4.7 million, 1.8/6) lost 300,00; Better Off Ted (4.2 million, 1.7/5) dropped 500,000.

Is Kara DioGuardi Fitting in on American Idol?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
Every season, American Idol takes some lucky contestants - and puts them right in the middle of a media fishbowl where their every move, past and present, is dissected and printed…usually with corresponding pictures.
But it’s not just the contestants who are under the microscope. Every season, the judges are quoted and pictured and filmed at length. In fact, some of them seem to get more screen time than the singers. This year, American Idol has offered up a new personality for the media to devour.
Her name is Kara DioGuardi, and she’s the fifth regular cast member to join the show. But let’s face facts: she’s still there, more or less, on trial. If DioGuardi doesn’t seem to work out pretty well this season, there’s no way of knowing if she’ll be back for the next.

American Idol 8: Top 8 Results
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
The intro for the Top 8 results show of American Idol 8 was highly dramatic, replete with clips of judges’ comments and images of the contestants. Paula Abdul wore opera length gloves for the evening; Randy wore his usual cardigan and Simon Cowell was, as always, in a black v-neck.
To re-visit the theme of the evening, a song from the year American Idol was born (1959) played out on the Idol big screen. The song was from Frankie Avalon, who then appeared on the big stage singing the same joint. The crowd - and Paula - seemed genuinely surprised and delighted.
I wasn’t. I spend every results show thinking “just get to it, already” - to no avail of course.

Okay - so Fringe might have had a little help from Adam Lambert. But FOX would have won anyway right? Despite its long absence, the freshman series returned last night to stronger numbers than when it left.
8pm
- American Idol (22 million, 7.8/21 in 18-49) was out of tune by 1.4 million.
- NCIS (17.6 million, 3.6/10) grew by 800,000.
- The Biggest Loser: Couples (8 million, 3.1/8) lost 800,000.
- It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown (1.3/3) rounded up 4.6 million.
- Reaper (2.3 million, 0.9/2) did about the same.

American Idol 8: Top 8 Perform
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Video,
The theme on American Idol Tuesday was songs from the year each contestant was born, which (considering the age restrictions on the show) really doesn’t create the biggest range in songwriting history. But it does mean baby photos, always a nice development.
Photos of the judges in their younger days were also shown, but for this night (the first hour-long performance broadcast this season) there was very little time for chitchatting. The pics of the judges were shown; even a Ryan Seacrest baby photo was slipped into the slide show. But with little delay, it was time for the singing to begin.

Megan Joy: American Idol’s Songbird Departs
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
“I love birds and bird noises,” explained Megan Joy, a.k.a. Megan Corkrey and Megan Joy Corkrey, the instigator behind one of the strangest moments of the current American Idol season…maybe even all the seasons. “I just decided that if I’m goin’ out, I’m goin’ out with a bang and I’m just going to be myself.” And so, Megan Joy “flew the whole time.”
Upon learning the news that she’d made it into the bottom three on the Wednesday night results show, Megan Joy flapped her arms and made squawking sounds as she made her way to the stools at stage right.
Joy’s immediate plans include adding to her ink - she’s getting a tattoo to commemorate the ring she wore for luck during her tenure on the show. She’s also happy to do whatever voice work and other gigs that might come, but for right now Megan is heading home to spend time with her son.
“As sad as I am that I’m leaving and I’m done with the show, there is a very big part of me that cannot wait to see my son,” Joy told reporters. “I’m ready to hold him in my arms again.”

Wednesday Ratings: CBS Gets Last Laugh from Special
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Specials, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, American Idol, Lost, Scrubs, Ratings,
Watching people work ordinary jobs might not seem interesting, but it apparently is when celebrities do it. The April Fools’ Special, I Get That a Lot, surprised many last night by pulling in stronger than expected numbers. Unfortunately, a win over Lie to Me wasn’t quite enough for CBS. Idol still put FOX on top for the night.
8pm
- I Get That a Lot (3.4/10 in 18-49) had 10.3 million laughing.
- Lie to Me (9 million, 2.6/8) was down 10% from the last fresh episode.
- Law & Order: Criminal Intent* (5.1 million, 1.2/4) did twice as well as The Chopping Block.
- Scrubs (5 million, 1.9/6) slid by 300,000; Better Off Ted (4.7 million, 1.8/5) remained steady.
- America’s Next Top Model (3.9 million, 1.7/5) grew by 1.1 million.

American Idol 8: Top 9 Results
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Video,
The American Idol Top 9 results show began, appropriately enough, with a montage. The remainder of the episode would feature much more of the same, as it always does.
As eliminated contestant Alexis Grace watched, Ryan Seacrest announced that 36 million votes were tallied to bring us the Wednesday results. The host spent a few moments talking with Randy Jackson on the subject of song choice. “Maybe it was too wide,” said Jackson, referring to the theme of Tuesday’s performance round.
“For me, it’s about knowing who you are, and delivering that confidence with conviction,” Paula Abdul stated. “Go for it!” She advised the Idol group. “Anoop, Matt, Megan,” Simon Cowell went through a list of those he thought might want to worry about the upcoming results.
The Ford video (clip above) followed, another poorly-done attempt at entertainment set to music. Seriously, these are growing steadily worse as weeks progress.

American Idol 8: Top 9 Perform
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
Ryan Seacrest’s opening monologue on American Idol concerned rising stakes and building pressure. Though these Top 9 are safely on the summer tour, they are not safe on the show by any means. One of them will be eliminated this week. One of them will win the coveted reality title. And, if they’re very lucky, some of them might become stars.
Sure, there’s plenty of pressure.
Seacrest asked Randy Jackson for his thoughts on the Top 9. “The competition’s just getting tougher, dude,” the judge offered. Kara DioGuardi defined her concept of artistry next: “I think artistry is taking those songs that you’ve heard a million times, and doing it in a way that’s unique.” DioGuardi used the word several times during performances last week.
The theme for the week was iTunes, making it a veritable free-for-all and a clever sponsor plug. Good one, Idol.
I’m just being sarcastic. It’s not much of a theme at all, but you don’t need me to tell you that.
